Crossroads ‘Winemakers Collection’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2011

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 15-Feb-2013
72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 2% Syrah from the ‘Elms', ‘Mere' and ‘Kereru' sites, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 73% new French oak barriques. Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby red, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly proportioned with fine, but intense aromas of black berried fruits and plums along with spicy oak and complexing mineral, herb and earthy notes. Medium-full bodied, concentrated flavours of blackcurrants, boysenberries and plums are entwined with oak spices. The flavours are supported by very fine-grained tannins and lively acidity provides good tension. The palate has a firm line and carries through to an elegant and very long finish with spicy, toasty oak emerging. This is an elegant, finely structured Cabernet and Merlot blend with oak-spiced black fruits. Serve with barbecued, roasted and grilled red meats over the next 6-8+ years. 18.5/20 Feb 2013 RRP $41.95
