Predominantly Mendoza with some clone 15 fruit from the ‘Kereru' vineyard at Marekakaho, 100% barrel-fermented on solids and lees to 14.5% alc., partially with wild yeasts, the wine then aged 9 months in 16% new French oak barriques. Fullish straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, this has a powerful, concentrated and intense nose, packed with ripe grapefruit, mealy, nutty oak and complex, savoury barrel-ferment aromas. A full-bodied and full-flavoured wine, this has robust and rich fruit flavours citrus fruit and melons, layered with mealy, nutty elements and toasty oak. The amalgam of fruit and oak, with creamy barrel-ferment textures is a feature, well balanced by fresh acidity; the wine carries a long, sustained finish. A bold, traditional style of Chardonnay that will accompany hearty seafood, poultry, pork and veal dishes over the next 4-6 years. 18.0/20 Jul 2011 RRP $45.00
