Crossroads ‘Vineyard Selection – Elms Vineyard, Gimblett Gravels’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Jul-2011
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, very youthful in appearance. This has an intense and penetrating, aromatic bouquet of violet florals, black fruits and spices along with some detracting reduction notes. On palate, this is very rich, lush and juicy, showing exotic black fruits, Asian spices and black pepper with a floral lift. The sulphide reduction here is only a complexing nuance and adds another flavour layer. Well-constructed with serious extraction, the tannins are fine and grainy and good acidity provides tension and freshness to the mouthfeel. Match with red game meat over the next 7-9+ years. ‘Mass Selection' and ‘Chave' clones from the ‘Elms' vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fully destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 30% new French barriques. 18.5-/20 Jul 2011 RRP $45.00
