Crossroads ‘Milestone Series’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2012

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 15-Feb-2013
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with purple hues on edge. The nose is full with softly concentrated aromas of dark plum fruit and earthy, minerally reductive notes that are prominent. Medium-full bodied, the palate features fleshy, juicy dark plum and dark red berry fruit flavours infused with mineral and earthy elements. The flavours are supported by supple and smooth tannins and moderately bright acidity. The wine has a good core and soft textures, the tannins building to lead to a dry, grainy, and long finish with sweet dark red fruit flavours without any bitterness intruding. This is a fleshy and juicy Merlot with soft textures and some sulphide reduction. It should integrate with some time in bottle and show more complex flavours over the next 4-5+ years. Serve with roasted red meats. ‘Kereru' fruit fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 7 months in 49% new French and American oak barriques. 16.5+/20 Feb 2013 RRP $26.95
