Craggy Range ‘Te Kahu’ Gimblett Gravels Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Feb-2011
A wine showing the potential to develop real interest and complexity over the next 7-9 years, this is a blend of 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec sourced from the ‘Gimblett Gravels' vineyard, the wine fermented to 13.9% alc., then aged 15 months in 22% new French oak barriques. Dark purple-hued ruby-red in colour, this has a plush, flowing, very aromatic bouquet of black plums, black berry fruits, tobacco, earth and spicy-charry oak. An elegantly sized wine in mouth, this combines the richness of the currant, berry and plum fruit with supple, fine-textured tannins. Freshness from acidity and the balanced, harmonious nature will make it an excellent wine with game and flavoursome red meat dishes. 18.5/20 Jan 2011 RRP $25.95
