Craggy Range ‘Les Beaux Cailloux’ ‘Gimblett Gravels Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 29-Aug-2012
Fruit from the ‘Gimblett Gravels' vineyard WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 28% new French oak barriques. Bright, very pale straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The bouquet is full, rich, intense and tightly bound with mealy, citrus fruits showing beautiful purity, along with complexing creamy-butternut MLF and flinty lees elements. Full-bodied, this is very concentrated with powerful and deep flavours of ripe citrus fruits with mealy, nutty notes and buttery MLF notes. The richness is initially restrained, but unfolds to provide a mouthfilling, soft creamy texture through the palate line, which is balanced by fresh, lacy acidity. The wine finishes with very long, driven creamy textures and citrus flavours. This is a rich, full-bodied Chardonnay with concentrated creamy and buttery flavours. Match with roast pork over the next 5-6+ years. 18.5+/20 Aug 2012 RRP $62.95
