Craggy Range ‘Le Sol’ ‘Gimblett Gravels Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 29-Aug-2012
Very full, saturated and impenetrable black-red with purple hues to the colour. The nose is intensely deep and concentrated, brooding a little, reserved initially, but blossoming to show aromatic and perfumed, ripe black fruits, dark florals, and exotic spices with an array of nuances. Full-bodied and weighty, rich, ripe, black plum, black pepper, spice and oak flavours show with succulence and lusciousness. Layers of exotic spices, liquorice and dark floral notes unfold from the concentrated core, which is balanced by very fine-grained tannins and excellent acidity. Energy and drive lead to a very long, sustained, finish with rich, spicy notes. This is a rich and sumptuous, finely poised, exotic Syrah with plenty of fine structure. Serve with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 10+ years. 100% Syrah from the ‘Gimblett Gravels' vineyard fermented to 13.7% alc., the wine aged 17 months in 38% new French oak barriques. 19.0+/20 Aug 2012 RRP $99.99
