Craggy Range ‘Kidnappers Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Sep-2013
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. This has a very fine and aromatic bouquet of white stonefruits and florals, unfolding nuances of nuts, butterscotch and fresh, steely elements providing a freshness and purity. Medium-bodied, light and pillowy flavours of white stonefruits, nuts, flint and buttery MLF notes softly fill the mouth. The textures are rounded and discreet acidity provides a gentle and mellow, but fresh mouthfeel. The palate builds in presence, showing good concentration and line, leading to a light and elegant finish with dried stonefruit and minerally notes. This is a soft and gentle Chardonnay with pure and harmonious flavours. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the ‘Kidnappers’ vineyard, Te Awanga, 60% hand-picked and fermented in French oak puncheons and barriques as well as stainless-steel to 12.12% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 10% new barrels and approx. 50% undergoing MLF. 17.5/20 Sep 2013 RRP $24.95
