Craggy Range ‘Kidnappers Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Feb-2011
Made with the style of Chablis in mind, the fruit from the coastal ‘Kidnappers' site in Te Awanga was 75% whole bunch pressed and partially wild yeast fermented to 13.5% alc. in stainless-steel tanks and a mixture of French oak barriques and puncheons, only 8% of which were new. Pale straw-yellow with youthful green hues to the colour, this has a bouquet reminiscent of the seaside with fine citrus and minerally aromas complexed by a light reductive nuttiness. Dry, crisp, steely and tightly constructed, this has a fine, cutting palate of flinty-edged white stonefruits, flint and hazelnuts. This has an austerity that will make it an excellent match with shellfish over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 Jan 2011 RRP $23.95
