Craggy Range ‘Gimblett Gravels Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2011

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Sep-2013
Syrah fruit 40% hand-picked, fully destemmed and fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 17 months in 22% new French oak barriques. Very full, black-hued purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. This has an elegant and finely penetrating, very attractively lifted bouquet of black berry fruits harmoniously entwined with liquorice, Asian spices, black pepper and violet florals. Medium-bodied, gently sweet, succulently rich black fruits, pepper and spice flavours are beautifully balanced and integrated nd underlined by very fine-grained tannins forming a tight, linear core. Fresh, lacy acidity provides tension and energy to the mouthfeel and flow, and enhance the flavours which blossom, revealing florals and oak spices. The finish is very long and sustained. This is a very elegant and refined, harmonious Syrah with an intense bouquet and a rich flavours of black fruits, spices and florals. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 5-6 years. 18.5-/20 Sep 2013 RRP $31.95
