Craggy Range ‘Gimblett Gravels Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Apr-2015
Full, very dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, very youthful in appearance. The nose is elegant and finely concentrated with intense aromas of ripe, black plum fruit along with delicate curranty notes, liquorice and spicy, nutty oak elements. This is fresh, fragrant and vibrant in expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a concentrated and tight core of ripe, succulently rich and sweet black plum fruit melded with spicy oak along with lifted, aromatic curranty elements. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained, powdery tannin extraction and structure, and the flavours flow with plenty of energy to a long and detailed finish with Nuances of spice, mint, florals and liquorice. This is an elegant and finely structured Merlot with succulently ripe and spicy nuanced plum flavours. Match with roast beef, lamb and venison over the next 7-10 years. 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Gimblett Gravels’ vineyard, 20% hand-picked and fermented to 13.3% alc., the wine aged 17 months in 21% new oak barriques. 18.5+/20 Apr 2015 RRP $31.95
