Craggy Range ‘Calvert Vineyard’ Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 12-Feb-2011
The biodynamically managed ‘Calvert' family vineyard on Felton Road in Bannockburn is now well-known to many wine enthusiasts. 10% of the fruit for this wine included whole bunch. It was fermented with indigenous yeasts to 14.5% alc. then aged 10 months in 35% new French oak barriques. Dark hearted, deep, purple-red in colour, this has a wonderfully fragrant nose of ripe plums, damson fruit and violets. The palate shows softly plump, juicy and succulent fruit flavours of dark red cherries with plums and florals nuanced by hints of herbs, spice, earth and oak char. This is supported by silky, fine-grained tannins, enabling immediate enjoyment. However, this will drink well over the next 5-6+ years and be a fine match with salmon, duck and pork dishes. A beautiful wine showing the fine and accessible richness of the 2009 Central Otago vintage. 19.0-/20 Jan 2011 RRP $59.95
