Craggy Range ‘Block 19’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Sep-2015
Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on edge. This has a very elegant and refined nose with restrained aromas of citrus fruits and white florals, along with mealy and nutty notes, barrel-ferment creaminess, mineral and lemon-curd MLF nuances, all expressed with intricacy and detail, forming a fine, concentrated core. Medium to medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, the flavours of citrus fruits and mealy, nutty elements are finely concentrated and flow along a creamy, smooth-textured line. The textures are very refined, with integrated, bright acidity lending good energy and drive. The wine carries to a long, lingering, elegant finish with nuances of citrus fruits and nuts. This is an elegant and refined Chardonnay with citrus and white stonefruit flavours, barrel-ferment richness and fresh balance. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 4-5 years. Clone 95 fruit from ‘Block 19’, hand-picked, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 40% new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. 18.5-/20 Sep 2015 RRP $59.95
