Craft Farm ‘Lyons Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 06-Mar-2016
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. This has a well-concentrated and deep nose of ripe and vibrantly aromatic black and dark raspberry fruit entwined with black pepper and subtle dark herbal nuances. This has aromatic purity and beauty. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours of dark raspberries and blackberries are bright, succulent and aromatic with violet floral lift, and black pepper and spice exoticism. The sweetness and spice is alluring. Fine-grained, flowery tannins and structure support the fruit, and fresh acidity enlivens the mouthfeel. The concentrated core carries to a sustained finish with complex savoury nuances. This has richness and aromatic finesse. Chave clone fruit from the Lyons ‘Hillside’ vineyard, Bridge Pa, hand-picked and fermented with 30% whole bunches to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 50% new French oak of various sizes. 100 dozen made. 18.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP $45.00 Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-hued purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has an elegantly presented nose with finely concentrated and densely packed aromas of black-berried fruits entwined with black and violet florals, harmoniously integrated with notes of black pepper and Asian spices. This is soft and finely presented, the integration a feature. Medium-bodied, elegantly concentrated, finely expressed, rich and aromatic fruit flavours of blackberries, dark raspberries and black pepper are lifted by violet florals. The palate is rich and succulent, and the fruit enlivened by bright acidity. The wine flows along a very fine-featured palate line with good linearity, leading to a long, lingering spicy finish. This is a very elegant and finely concentrated, luscious and aromatic Syrah with spice notes and fresh mouthfeel. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 6-7 years.
