Corbans ‘1902’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2012

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 21-Mar-2017
Even, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full and softly voluminous with harmoniously integrated aromas of savoury dark-red plum fruit melded with dried herbs and soft earthy layers, revealing an amalgam of liquorice, game and cedar. Medium-full bodied, the palate possesses soft, up-front, mouthfilling flavour of dark-red plums entwined with dried herbs, nutty oak and earthy notes. The mouthfeel is rounded and fine-textured with light, drying tannins and integrated acidity. The wine is developing secondary and maturity characters, and carries to a soft, light, lingering finish of savoury plums, herbs, earth and game. This Merlot/Cabernet blens is beginning to show secondary development with savoury dark plum, herb, earth and game flavours on a rounded, dry palate. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked game dishes over the next 4 years. A blend of 87% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Malbec and Cabernet Franc, the fruit from Hawke’s Bay, fermented to 13.5% alc. the wine aged 36 months in 25% new French oak. 17.0/20 Mar 2017 RRP $19.99
