Cooks Cove Gisborne Merlot 2014

Merlot from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 28-Jan-2016
Merlot fruit from Tolaga Bay fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in oak. Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with good depth, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is elegantly proportioned with up-front, fruit-focussed, uncomplicated aromas of dark plum and red berry fruit along with herb, currant and earthy notes. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses flavours of dark red berry fruits and plums melded with curranty fruit, herbs, earth and some stalky elements. Softly dry, grainy tannins underline the fruit and the palate is enlivened by light, lacy acidity which leads to a soft finish with restrained flavours of plum and currants. This is an up-front, accessible and straightforward Merlot with plum, herb and curranty flavours and a grainy mouthfeel. Serve with barbecued and roasted red meats over the next 3-4 years. 16.5-/20 Jan 2016 RRP $20.00
