Conde Valdemar Rioja Reserva 2008

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 27-Sep-2015
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour. This has a very full and densely concentrated nose of rich, savoury and spicy, earthy dark-red berry fruits and black plums along with a strong layering of vanilla from the American oak. This is powerful and intense in depth and combines concentration with fruit richness. Full-bodied, deeply flavoured and concentrated with a solid and dense core, the rich flavours of black berry and plum fruit are complexed by savoury earth and herb nuances, and sweetened and lifted by waves of American oak vanilla. This is luscious, but the mouthfeel is balanced by fulsome extract and structure. This is mouthfilling, and leads to a very strong, long finish. This is a full, rich and structured Rioja Reserva that will live 10-12+ years. 90% Tempranillo and 5% each Mazuelo and Graciano fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 70% American and 30% French oak barrels. 18.5/20 Sep 2015 RRP $42.95
