Conde Valdemar Rioja Gran Reserva 2007

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 28-Sep-2015
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour, lighter on the edge with a touch of garnet. This has a full, voluminous and deeply concentrated nose with well-integrated aromas of ripe black and red berry and plum fruits in a complex and dense amalgam of earth, spices, cedar and vanilla oak layers that unfold to fill the bouquet. Full-bodied, the palate features a very deep and richly layered and detail core of black berry and dark-red plum fruits with liquorice, spices, earth undergrowth elements and fine, cedary and sweet oak. The mouthfeel is plush and lush, with fine, firm tannins underlining the fruit. This has depth and density, and the wine flows with drive and acid energy, leading to a deep, concentrated, lingering finish. This is a rich, concentrated and detailed Rioja Gran Reserva that will evolve over the next decade. 90% Tempranillo and 5% each Mazuelo and Graciano fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 26 months in 75% French and 25% American oak barrels. 18.5+/20 Sep 2015 RRP $59.95
