Concha y Toro ‘Casillero del Diablo’ ‘Reserva’ Valle Central Merlot 2016

Merlot from Chile
Review Date : 05-Apr-2018
Dark, deep, black-hearted ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, lighter edged and youthful in appearance. The nose is tightly bound with good depth and intensity of blackcurrant fruit along with dark-red berries and plums, entwined with dark herbs, some stalky elements and nutty oak notes. Medium-fill bodied, the palate has moderately rich and concentrated flavours of red and blackcurrants, along with subtle mulberry notes, intermingling with herbs and stalks. The fruit is underlined by light tannin grip and balanced, fresh acidity. As the wine flows, the herbaceous elements grow and carry to the finish. This Merlot has red and blackcurrant fruit infused with herb and stalk notes on a light-structured palate. Match with herb-marinated red meats, and serve with Mediterranean cuisine over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the Central Valley fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in American oak barrels. 16.0+/20 Apr 2018 RRP $18.99
