Concha y Toro ‘Casillero del Diablo’ ‘Reserva’ Merlot 2012

Merlot from Chile
Review Date : 21-Feb-2014
Very dark, even, black-hued red with purple-ruby edge. The bouquet is youthfully fresh and lifted with primary black and redcurrant aromas along with cool-spectrum herbal notes interwoven. Medium-full bodied, this has a concentrated core of rounded blackcurrant and black plum fruit flavours with harmoniously integrated oaking. The palate shows good fruit sweetness with a light tannin line and balanced extract and acidity levels, allowing the fruit to feature. A smooth-flowing mid-palate leads to a soft finish with plum and fresh herb notes. Though cool on bouquet, this Merlot has a sweetly rounded palate. Match with roasted herb-rubbed red meats over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from the Central Valley, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in American oak barriques. 17.0/20 Feb 2014 RRP $15.99
