Coal Pit Proprietor’s Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Central Otago

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 29-Jun-2022
Bright, yellow with depth and a green hue, even colour throughout. The nose is full, with aromas leaping out of the glass; tropical mango, peach and nectarine underlying spice and flinty complexity. Full-bodied, succulent and concentrated aromas of peach and nectarine melded with green herb and lime fruit core. A creamy mouthfeel flows with good energy, balancing the taut acid drive, unfolding fine-textured, chewy phenolics, citrus peel and subtle spice. The wine has a complex range of flavours in layers; supportive acid tension lends vitality and a long, tangy finish. This complex barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc possesses ripe fruit underlying varietal, poised details and a lengthy, focused finish. Match with goat's cheese ravioli with burnt butter and crisp-fried flatfish over the next 8 years. Fruit from Gibbston, handpicked, 15% foot stomped, on skins overnight, 85% whole bunch pressed to barrels, partial wild ferment, aged for 10 months, 40% new French oak. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) June 2022 RRP $45
