Coal Pit Central Otago Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 06-Nov-2018
Bright, pale straw-yellow with slight green hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full with gentle and ethereal aromas of passionfruit and tropical fruits with notes of savoury green stonefruits, fresh herbs and chalky minerals. The aromatics are subtly detailed. Dry to taste and medium-fullish bodied, the palate has fulsome and deeply packed flavours with an amalgam of passionfruit, tropical fruits, stonefruits and herbs, with savoury mineral hints. The fruit forms a solid core with some underlying alcoholic power showing, adding to the power and drive. The acidity is softly fresh and gently mouthwatering, and the wine carries easily to a rounded, lingering finish. This is a full and rounded, but concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with passionfruit, tropical fruit flavours along with savoury herb and mineral detail on a palate with power. Match with herb-marinated seafood and poultry, and Mediterranean cuisine over the next 2 years. Hand-picked fruit from vines dating back to 1994 in age, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 14.5% alc. and 4.4 g/L RS, the wine given extended lees contact. 312 dozen made. 17.5/20 Oct 2018 RRP $27.00
