Coal Pit Bendigo Pinot Noir 2022, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 28-Jul-2023
Deep ruby-red with a purple reflection, lighter on the rim. This has an enticing bouquet, with aromas of black fruit, dark herbs & floral, spice, and a hint of earth. Medium-full bodied, aromas of black cherry and boysenberry interweaved with thyme, liquorice, desiccated rose, cinnamon, nutmeg and earth. The fruit is densely full with excellent depth. Fine-grained, velvety tannins coat the palate, freshened by radiant acidity, carrying a long, complex, broody finish. This Pinot Noir reflects Bendigo's dark fruit character with alluring fragrances and a fine structure. Match with truffle risotto and roasted lamb leg over the next 8+ years. Fruit from a high elevated site in Bendigo, clones 115, 5 and Abel. Handpicked, 100% whole bunch wild fermented in stainless steel to 13% alc, aged in seasoned French oak, unfined, lightly filtered. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) July 2023 RRP $95
