Cloudy Bay Marlborough Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 28-Sep-2012
Hand-picked Mendoza and B95 clone fruit from Brancott, Fairhall, Ben Morven and the central Wairau Valley, fully barrel-fermented to13.8% alc., the wine aged one year in 15% new French oak and given batonnage, and approx. 70% undergoing MLF. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light lemony-gold hues and a pale edge. Concentrated and powerful aromas of ripe citrus fruit and complex mealy, flinty lees and reductive elements fill the bouquet, unfolding layers of nuts and toasty oak in the glass. This is rich and densely packed on the nose. Full-bodied, rich flavours of citrussy fruit and interwoven flinty, nutty and mealy notes build, becoming intensely concentrated. This has a barrel-ferment creaminess to the mouthfeel, along with a very fine textural line, enhanced by lacy acidity. The flavours flow to a very long, nuanced finish featuring nutty, toasty oak. This is a full-bodied and complex Chardonnay packed with ripe citrussy fruit, flint and, nutty flavours. Serve with grilled seafood or roasted poultry and pork over the next 4-5+ years. 18.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $37.90
