Clos St William Waipara Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 16-Mar-2012
Fruit from the ‘Clos St William' vineyard, 100% indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French oak to 12.8% alc. and 4.5 g/L rs, the wine given lees contact. Brilliant, light golden-hued straw colour, full and even. Initial fermentation esters dissipate to reveal a complex nose of exotic yellow stonefruits with hints of flinty lees work and a little oak spiciness that all grow in the glass and show with good depth. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, this has softly rich floral and savoury stonefruit flavours forming a good core to the palate. The fruit sweetness is enhanced by good acidity and the alcohol drive is proportioned and balanced with the moderate weight. This has a long finish that combines luscious fruit and layered flavours with some textural grip. A medium-bodied, lush and textured Pinot Gris that will be a match with rich Middle Eastern park and lamb dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 220 cases made. 17.5+/20 Mar 2012 RRP $21.95
