Clearview ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2015

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-Dec-2016
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter edged, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly concentrated with intense and penetrating aromas of ripe blackberries lifted by dark-red and violet florals, exotic herbs and whole cluster stalk perfumes, unfolding black pepper with nuances of spices and nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate is finely presented with tight and concentrated, sweetly ripe flavours blackberries entwined with spices, pepper and subtle layers of violet florals melded with whole bunch stalk fragrance. The tannins are finely extracted lending an elegant, positive structure and line, and the acidity is balanced and integrated. The fruit sweetness is carried by the textures to a lingering, concentrated finish of black fruits, florals and spices. This is an elegant, fine and tightly structured Syrah with black berried fruits, florals, pepper, and subtle whole cluster herb detail. Match with lamb, beef, venison and semi-hard cheeses over the next 6-8 years. Fruit from Te Awanga, fermented with 40% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in puncheons, one 1 y.o. and one seasoned. 18.5/20 Dec 2016 RRP $39.00
