Clearview ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Feb-2011
Made from vines up to 22 y.o. in Te Awanga, this had 20% of the fruit with limited skin contact, the rest whole bunch pressed before full barrel fermentation to 14.5% alc, then subsequent maturation in 49% new oak barriques, almost all French. Bright straw yellow in colour, this has a softly full, but very intense nose and palate showing ripe yellow stonefruit and citrus fruit characters with mealy and nutty elements and fine toasty oak. The wine has density allied to tension from beautifully balanced acidity which translates to rich textures. Yet the wine is one of real power. The alcoholic body gives strength and presence. An array of subtleties emerges with air time. This will keep 5-7 years easily. 19.0-/20 Nov 2010 RRP $35.00
