Clearview ’Karaka’ Hawke’s Bay 2016

Other White from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-Dec-2016
Full, light golden-yellow colour with some peach-orange hues at the hearth, lighter on the edge. The nose is tight and firmly packed with aromas of savoury tropical fruit entwined with herbs, green stonefruits and nuances of gooseberries, unfolding citrus fruit detail. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, this has a well-concentrated and tight core with flavours of savoury topical fruit and green stonefruits, along with citrus and herb detail, and lifted yellow florals. The mouthfeel features moderately fine-textured extraction providing a dry, grainy presence and line, which along with fresh, lacy acidity provides balance and freshness. The acidity enlivens the fruitiness and along with the textures carry to wine to a crisp finish. This is a well-concentrated skin-contact Sauvignon Gris with savoury tropical fruit and green stonefuit flavours on a grainy-textured, but refreshing palate. Match with herb-marinated pasta, poultry and pork dishes over the next 2 years. The second ‘single vineyard’ ‘Karaka’ Te Awanga release, the first being a rosé. This is made as an ‘orange’ wine, 100% Sauvignon Gris, fermented and aged 150 days on skins to 12.5% alc. and <1.0 g/L RS, the wine bottled unfined, unfiltered and with no added sulphur. 17.5+/20 Dec 2016 RRP $21.00
