Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Mar-2017
Dark, even ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is elegant in proportion with tightly bound, fragrant aromas of blackberry fruit entwined with black pepper along with a fine line of dark herbs and subtle whole bunch stalk suggestions, harmoniously integrated at the core. Violet florals unfold with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses elegantly expresses, juicy and luscious fruit flavours of blackberries lifted by dark-red and violet florals. The fruit is enlivened by lacy acidity, and subtle nuances of dark herbs and black pepper emerge. The palate is carried by the fruit with supple tannin and moderate extraction in support, leading to a light, dry finish of black pepper and florals. This is a juicy and luscious black-fruited Syrah with floral, herb and peppery notes on a fresh, supple palate. Match with roasted and grilled red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. 100% Te Awanga fruit, indigenous yeast fermented with 25% whole bunches to 13.2% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 10% new French oak. 17.5+/20 Mar 2017 RRP $28.00
