Clearview ‘Cape Kidnappers’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-Dec-2016
Full, very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. This has a full and deep nose of ripe aromas of dark-red plums and blackberry fruit with notes of redcurrants, spices and hints of dark herbs. Medium-full-bodied, the palate is rich with sweet, juicy and succulently bright flavours of dark-red plums entwined with blackberries, redcurrants and subtle notes of dark herbs. The flavours are mouthfilling and form a rounded core. The fruit is supported by moderate tannin extraction providing a supple and fine-grained mouthfeel and line. Fresh, bright acidity shows youth and energy, and the wine carries to a lively lingering finish with grip, balanced by sweet plum and black fruits. This is a bright, rich and succulent Merlot with good depth and balanced extract and grip, along with a fresh mouthfeel. Serve with barbecued lamb and beef over the next 4 years. A blend of 86% Merlot and 14% Malbec from Te Awanga, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 8% new French oak barrels. 18.0-/20 Dec 2016 RRP $21.00
