Clark Estate Black Birch Pinot Gris 2021, Marlborough

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 28-Apr-2022
Bright, even, pale straw-yellow with a tinge of amber. This has a sweet, fragranced bouquet with jasmine interweave pear, quince, citrus and an amalgam of spice. Full-bodied, dry-ish to taste, aromas of sweet pear, quince, grapefruit uplifted by five-spice and linger with jasmine floral. The entry is opulent; the oily mouthfeel is effortlessly smooth-flowing. Five-spice lifted the palate with balanced acidity left a crisp finish. This is a seductive Pinot Gris with vibrant, sweet fruit, jasmine floral and spice on a lovely oily mouthfeel. Match with five-spice chicken and pork dumplings over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from a single vineyard in Upper Awatere Valley, cool-fermented to 13.5% alc, 5 g/l RS, left on lees for an extended period. 18.5-/20 pts (92 pts) Apr 2022 RRP $25
