Circuit North Canterbury Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 16-Feb-2016
Light yellow colour with orange hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is soft and full with gently packed and harmoniously layered, complex aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits with red fruit nuances, savoury honey, nutty and flinty elements, subtle oxidative, bruised apple hints. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the mouthfeel is soft, rounded and smooth-textured with a near-unctuous richness. The palate unfolds layers of yellow stonefruit flavours entwined with honey, musk, spices and root ginger, along with savoury nutty notes. The acidity is soft and low, and the wine flows smoothly to a well-concentrated finish with bitter stonefruits, honey and musk. This is a very soft, smooth, complex-layered, off-dry Pinot Gris with savoury stonefruit, honey, musk and nutty flavours. Serve with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 2-3 years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Falcon Crest’ vineyard on Glasnevin Gravels, 61% WBP and 29% foot-crushed and soaked 24 hours on skins, fermented with vineyard yeast in 500 L puncheons, the latter portion with full solids. 10% was co-fermented on skins with Riesling, this portion remaining on skins for 7 months. The wine is 13.0% alc. and 9.2 g/L RS. 405 dozen made. 17.5/20 Feb 2016 RRP $23.00
