Churchill’s Estates Douro Tinto 2011

Blended Red from Portugal
Review Date : 02-Apr-2015
40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Francesca and 30% Tinta Roriz, fermented to 14.5% alc., with approx. 30% aged 12 months in new and seasoned French oak. Full, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is fulsome with good depth and breadth of ripe black fruit aromas, showing blackberries, plums and liquorice with interwoven layers of pepper, spices, black minerals and tar. The nose reveals lifted black floral perfumes in the glass. Dry and full-bodied, sweetly ripe, succulently juicy flavours of blackberries, minerals and tar are encased by fine-grained powdery tannin structure. Discreet acidity provides good energy and adds to the extract and drive, carrying the sweet black fruits to a long and sustained finish with earth and tarry nuances. This is a full, rich and succulent black-fruited Douro red with fine-grained structure. Match with slow-cooked game meat and hard cheeses over the next 7-10 years. 18.0+/20 Apr 2015 RRP $27.99
