Churchill ‘Meijo Queijo’ Douro 2011

Blended Red from Portugal
Review Date : 03-Dec-2014
Deep black-red colour, a little lighter on edge. The nose is up-front and uncomplicated with aromas of savoury red berry fruit along with warm earthy plums, lifted with floral and herbal notes. Medium-full bodied juicy and sweet black fruit flavours form a good core, unfolding savoury earth and plum notes along with some herbal elements. Fresh, lively acidity enhances the fruit brightness and the wine follows a grainy textured line. The tannins have a slight rusticity and carry the wine to a savoury, robust finish with sweet black fruits. This is an up-front, juicy, black-fruited Douro red with rustic, but lively mouthfeel. Match with barbecued fare and casseroles over the next 3-4 years. 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% each Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz from the company’s ‘A’ grade plantings, fermented to 14.5% alc., 20% of the wine aged in seasoned oak. 16.5+/20 Dec 2014 RRP $25.99
