Church Road ‘TOM’ Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-May-2016
Bright, even straw-yellow colour with light golden hues. The bouquet is very fine and tightly bound with fresh and aromatic aromas of white stonefruits with citrus elements and nutty, flinty reductive detail. The aromatics have intensity and penetration, and are refreshingly youthful. Medium-full bodied, the palate is refined and elegantly concentrated with a very fine, tight, phenolic core providing depth, drive and linearity. The flavours of white stonefruits and citrus fruits are entwined with flinty complexities, and enlivened by bright, lacy acidity. This has finesse and length, and the fruit unveils richness and sweetness on the finish. This contemporary style will develop another 4-5 years. 73% clone 95 fruit from Omaranui and 27% clone 15 from Tuki Tuki, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 35% new French oak undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. 19.5-/20 May 2016 RRP $N/A Very pale straw-yellow colour. The nose is softly fine with elegantly concentrated and complex, intertwined aromas of earthy white and yellow stonefruits, gunflint, minerals and notes of nuts and toast. Medium-full bodied, this is elegant in proportion and restrained in flavour, showing tightly bound stonefruits, flinty reductive complexities and nuts. The acidity is light and soft, and the palate has a fine grainy-textured mouthfeel, with strength and power at the core. There is a beguiling density, and the wine has a soft, dryness that carries through to a long, lingering, detailed finish. This is an elegant Chardonnay with flavours based around flinty complexities and fine, dry textures. 4-5+ years. 73% clone 95 fruit from Omaranui and 27% clone 15 from Tuki Tuki, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 35% new French oak undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. 18.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $70.00
