Church Road ‘TOM’ Chardonnay 2006

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-May-2016
Brilliant light golden-yellow colour. This has a full, densely packed nose, quite integrated with layers of mature aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits, mealy and nutty complexities that build in solidness and intensity. On palate very fulsome, rich and plush with solid and weighty presence, packed with layers of savoury secondary stonefruits, citrus fruits, mealy and nutty waves. The mouthfeel is rounded and low acidity contributes to the breadth. Nutty and toasty oak, with mineral detail emerges. The wine shows a little drying texture, but the depth and layering of complexities carry the wine to a strong finish. This is mature now, but will drink well over the next 3-4 years. 51% clone 95 from Omaranui, 49% clone 15 from Korokipo, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 45% new French oak undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. 19.0/20 May 2016 RRP $N/A 51% clone 95 from Omaranui, 49% clone 15 from Korokipo, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 45% new French oak undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. Straw-yellow colour, light golden hints, still youthful in appearance. The bouquet is very full and densely packed with ripe yellow stonefruits with some savoury, nutty secondary nuances and toasty oak. Full-bodied, powerful and mouthfilling flavours of ripe stonefruits and savoury nuts, flint and toast form a dense core that unfolds in waves of interest. The acidity is soft and alcohol power drives the palate line and provides breadth. Soft but textured savoury notes fill out the long finish. The primary freshness and vitality of this wine has receded, being replaced with nuances of complex, funky development and the beginnings of dryness and textures. This is drinking well now, and over the next 2-3 years. 18.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $70.00
