Church Road ‘McDonald Series’ Hawke’s Bay Tempranillo 2013

Tempranillo from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Jun-2015
Full, near saturated, black-hued purple-red colour, very youthful in appearance. The nose is full and densely packed with very ripe aromas of dark raspberries and black plums, along with fragrant spices, earth and pepper and pencilly oak. This has real depth and considerable presence. Full-bodied, the palate features rich and densely concentrated, plush and sweetly luscious flavours of black plums, dark berry fruits, chocolate and oak vanillin, with subtle earth elements. The fruit is opulent and mouthfilling, with balancing powdery tannin extraction and structure, forming a firm core and line. Some alcoholic power, warmth and generosity adds to the body and weight, and the wine carries to a strong, powerful and concentrated finish of sweet black and red fruits. This is a powerful, sweet-fruited Tempranillo with fulsome structure. Match with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 7-9 years. Fruit from the ‘Redstone’ vineyard, Bridge Pa Triangle, destemmed and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine spending 19 days on skins and aged approx. 18 months in 20% new French oak. 18.5+/20 Jul 2015 RRP $26.59
