Church Road ‘McDonald Series’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-May-2016
Full, dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour. The nose is elegantly concentrated with harmoniously balanced and integrated aromas of black fruits, black pepper with notes of Asian spices and violet florals. The aromatics grow with aeration. Medium-bodied, this is finely proportioned on palate featuring bright, lively and aromatic black fruits, black and white pepper, violet florals and spices. The fruit sweetness is enhanced by bright acidity, and underlined by fine, supple tannin extraction. This is all in balance and proportion and carries smoothly to a fine, lingering finish. This has 4-5+ years of development ahead easily. 92.5% clone 470 and 7.5% clone 174, from the ‘Redstone’ vineyard, fully destemmed and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine on skins 3 to 3 ½ weeks, the wine aged 17 months in 25% new French and Hungarian oak barriques. 18.5/20 May 2016 RRP $26.60
