Church Road Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-Dec-2015
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with some purple hues, lighter edged. The bouquet is fresh and intense with softly concentrated aromas of blackberries and softly infused black pepper notes along with liquorice, Asian spices, mint and a touch of camphor. Medium-bodied, the palate features a round and concentrated core of ripe blackberry, black pepper fruit flavours, layered with Asian spices and Dutch liquorice and dark herbs. The fruit is framed by soft, grainy tannins with integrated acidity adding to the accessibility and suppleness. The fine, powdery tannins carry the core to a long finish of black pepper and liquorice notes. This is a softly concentrated, deeply flavoured Syrah with blackberry, black pepper and liquorice notes and a fine-textured mouthfeel. Serve with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit, 52% Bridge Pa Triangle and 48% ‘Biss’ vineyard, Flaxmere, 470 and MS clones, destemmed and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 2-4 weeks on skins post ferment, the wine aged 16 months in French and Hungarian oak barriques, approx. 20% new. 17.5/20 Dec 2015 RRP $19.95
