Church Road ‘Grand Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-May-2016
Very dark, deep, black-red colour with a black-hued heart. This has a very firm and intense, penetrating nose with boldly concentrated aromas of black-berried fruits, black plums, liquorice, Asian spices and black pepper along with a violet floral lift. This has great aromatic presence with waves of aromatics continually unfolding. Medium-full bodied, the palate is one of power, depth and density, with ripe black berry and plum fruits, liquorice, black pepper and spices filling the mouth. The extraction is significant, and balanced by fresh, bright acidity, lending the palate with grip, texture, energy and length. The bold and powerful flavours carry to a strong, vigorous finish. This will keep 7-8+ years. 40% clone 470, 48% Chave and 12% MS clone fruit from the ‘Redstone’ vineyard, fully-destemmed and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 4-5 weeks on skins and aged 15 months 35% new French oak barriques. 19.0/20 May 2016 RRP $44.35
