Chateau Garage Lyon’s Vineyard Chardonnay 2022, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Jun-2023
Bright, pale straw yellow with some depth, even colour throughout. This has focus and layers on the bouquet, with lush stonefruit, citrus peels, spice and mineral hints. Medium-full bodied, aromas of peach and nectarine intertwined with citrus peels and a suggestion of melon, minerals elegantly adorned the palate, unfolding sweet floral and delicate spice. The wine is mouth-filling with lushness and weight, reflecting clay and stony minerals. Fine-textured phenolics leave a silken and lingering palate. This Chardonnay is coy in the entry, lightly savoury with a stonefruit core, generous mouthfeel, fine texture and earthy elements that enrich and unfold a fine spice layer and subtle power. Serve decanted with roasted guinea fowl and crayfish over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from Block 1, a field blend of clones 15, Medoza and 96, barrel-fermented to 13% alc, aged 10 months in seasoned French oak barrels. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) June 2023 RRP $50
