Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2005

Blended White from France - Rhone
Review Date : 03-Sep-2011
A blend of 80%Roussanne, 15% Grenache Blanc and 5% Clairette, Bourboulenc and Picardin from vines 10-50 y.o., the not blocked for MLF, and aged 6 months in 30% new oak. Bright golden-yellow colour with a lemony edge, this has a full, bold nose of yellow stonefruits with nutty elements and citrussy notes. Dry to taste, this is a firm, solid and weighty wine with flavours of ripe stonefruits, citrus, nuts and a little flattening oxidation, on a full, rounded, but textured palate. There is a waxiness and alcohol warmth, the wine broad and mellow, while still with power and backbone. A wine that is drinking well now, but will keep another 5-7+ in this condition.  Aug 2011
