Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 2005

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 03-Sep-2011
Very dark, deep, intensely coloured with youthful black-red showing. This has a dense, lush, ripe nose of black and red berry fruits along with some perfumes of dark violetty florals as well as notes of animal and game interest. The bouquet is still tightly bound. The palate is powerful, and still tight with restraint. The concentration and depth is evident, but the wine retains a degree of elegance. Fine-grained tannins provide the structure for the dark berry fruit flavours, still youthful and with sweet primacy, but some gamey brettanomyces is present, adding a level of complexity. This could keep 8-10 years.  Aug 2011
