Charles Smith Wines ‘The Velvet Devil’ Washington Merlot 2013

Merlot from USA
Review Date : 18-Nov-2015
Very dark, deep ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has an elegantly proportioned nose of ripe dark-red berry and redcurrant fruit entwined with subtle herbal and dark red floral elements. The nose is fine in presentation and reveals mineral nuances in the glass. Medium-full bodied with a slender body, the flavours of dark red berry and redcurrant fruit are rich and sweet, and complexed by a subtle herbal layer. The mouthfeel is smooth in flow and fine-textured, with balanced extraction and structure. This has good linearity and fine acid tension, leading to a fresh herb and redcurrant-nuanced finish. This is an elegant, redcurranty Merlot with smooth flow and textures. Match with lamb and beef over the next 5-6 years. 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Colombia Valley, fermented in tank and 30% new French oak to 13.5% alc. 17.0+/20 Nov 2015 RRP $30.00
