Charles and Charles Columbia Valley Cabernet/Syrah 2013

Blended Red from USA
Review Date : 11-Jul-2015
The ‘American Legion Post No.35 Blend’. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Syrah, 48% from the ‘Goose Ridge’ vineyard, 28% from ‘Upland’, 20% from the Wahluke Slope AVA, and 4% ‘Painted Hill’ vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Indigenous yeast fermented to 13.9% alc., the Cabernet with whole berries and the Syrah with whole clusters, the wine spending 27 days on skins post ferment. Full, even, black-red colour, with lighter garnet hues on edge. The nose is full with deep and solid aromas of black berried fruits melded with savoury blackcurrant and olive notes and complexing dark herb, stalk and earthy elements that unfold with aeration. Full-bodied, the palate is robust and rounded with fulsome and well packed flavours of blackberries and black plums, layered with complexing notes of savoury currants, herbs, black ink and earth. The fruit is ripe and sweet, and balanced by soft, grainy tannin extraction that fills the mouth. The acidity is integrated and the wine flows to a long, solid and rich, black-fruited, earthy finish. This is a fulsome, black-fruited Cabernet and Syrah blend with layers of savoury flavours. Match with barbecued and grilled game meat dishes over the next 5-7+ years. 17.5/20 Jul 2015 RRP $35.00
