Chalk Hill McLaren Vale Sangiovese 2012

Sangiovese from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 08-Jun-2014
Dark, deep ruby-red colour, a little lighter on rim. The nose is full with deep and fragrant aromas of red cherry fruit, kirsch, herbs, nutty, resinous oak and nuances of milk chocolate forming a complex amalgam. Medium-full bodied, rich flavours of black and bitter red cherry fruit show with some resinous oak elements, and are enlivened by brisk, lacy and elevated acidity, and underlined by firm, chalky, fine-grained tannins. The mouthfeel is tight, bright and exudes tension and energy and the palate has a lively linearity, leasing to a long, concentrated, dry textured, but racy finish with bitter cherry notes. This is a Sangiovese with classical bitter cherry and fresh acidity style, along with firm, fine tannins. Serve with risotto, pasta, most red meat dishes and hard cheeses over the next 6-7+ years. 100% Sangiovese from the top of the ‘Chalk Hill’ vineyard, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in seasoned oak. 17.5/20 Jun 2014 RRP AU$24.00
