Ch. d’Yquem Sauternes 2005

Sweet Wine from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 01-Sep-2018
Bright, deep golden-yellow colour. This has a full, broad and voluminous nose, the aromatics still bound at the core and yet to open up fully. Rich yellow stonefruits, apricots, tropical fruits and wild honey with orange marmalade, harmoniously entwined with fine musky botrytis, beeswax and nectar. Lovely aromatic integration and quite complete and balanced. Very rich and sweet, with great depth and intensity, this has stylish weight and plush density on the palate. Ripe tropical fruits, apricots with complexing savouriness. A touch of caramel, with the musky botrytis. This is wonderfully integrated with unctuousness and fine acidity in the background. This is just coming into its own, but will continue to develop another 2+ decades. 19.0/20 Aug 2018 $950.00

This is light golden colour with a degree of youthful paleness on the rim. Tight, taut and backward, the nose features waxy, white stonefruit and florals, along with subtle green stonefruit and herb elements. The oak is prominent, and the botrytis pure, but restrained. On palate also reserved and tightly bound, the waxy, herb-like and lanolin Semillon fruit is the focus. Subtle botrytis and firm oak are still to come together, and the wine has real linearity, following a fine youthful thread of phenolics. This is still youthful and is sure to blossom into greatness. 19.0/20 Mar 2016 RRP $N/A Bright, light straw-yellow colour with some golden hues. Full and broad on nose, this was an open and accessible style, with spices and confectionary notes to the oak and fruit. Is the botrytis all noble? However, this had good richness, oily and unctuous in textures on palate, all expressed with a degree of fineness, much cleaner and with more purity than on nose. Good youthful acidity kept the wine lively too. This should be a medium-term d'Yquem for 15-20+ years.  17.5+/20 Aug 2010
