Ch. d’Yquem Sauternes 2004

Sweet Wine from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 20-Dec-2018
Bright, light golden-hued yellow colour with very good depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is rich with ripe aromas of yellow stonefruits, tropical fruits and marmalade, melded with honey and waxy lanolin indicative of the Semillon, and hints of nutty oak. Nectar and an amalgam of florals and botrytis sit in the background. This is very elegant in proportion, still quite primary and youthfully fresh, but offers immediate accessibility. Very sweet to taste and fullish bodied, the palate is one of elegance, freshness and stylishness, with fine detail, showing honey and waxy fruit wonderfully melded together, marmalade with subtle nutty notes and delicate botrytis all in balance and harmony. There is a fine phenolic-textured line that tempers the unctuousness, and soft acidity lends approachability. This is an elegant and refined wine, still remarkably youthful, with its complexities yet to develop, but decadent in its own right. An easy 20+ years ahead of it. 14.0% alc. 19.5-/20 Dec 2018 RRP $N/AThis has a pale golden yellow colour and a beautifully proportioned bouquet, showing balanced primary waxy Semillon fruit with tropical fruit notes melded with honey, and background marmalade botrytis, all underlined by nutty oak. Rich and succulent on palate, this exudes luxuriousness and integration with plush and ripe fruit flavours along with a lanolin edge, refined musky, orange marmalade botrytis and oak. A fine phenolic grip balances the richness and the wine finishes stylishly, if not with finesse. Poised between freshness and the secondary phase. (1.5 Litre) 19.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP$N/A Youthful in colour, being pale straw-yellow with golden hues. This was remarkably refined and elegant on bouquet, the intensity quite astonishing and purity of expression a highlight. Wonderful honey and tropical fruit notes, with nutty, vanilla-like oak, all held tight. The palate echoed the nose, absolutely refined, but intense, with great vibrancy and life. The harmony of the componentry was beautiful, and allowed immediate enjoyment, but this should live 30 years plus.  19.5/20 Aug 2010
