Ch. d’Yquem Sauternes 1999

Sweet Wine from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 18-Mar-2016
This has a golden-yellow colour with orange hues. Rather tightly bound, a little slender and narrow, but with good intensity. The waxy and lanolin fruit is matched by nutty oak, along with some lift. This unveils savoury and spicy elements. An elegant wine in proportion, with citrus and lanolin, and subtle honey, botrytis and nutty componentry. The volatility adds lift and the wine follows a fine-textured, phenolic line. This will remain a smaller-scale wine. 17.5/20 Mar 2016 Bright, light, lemony straw-yellow in colour. Quite youthful on bouquet, this had VA and esters lift to the honied, raisiny fruit. The nose was tight, fresh and firmly expressed. On palate, this was a well-balanced wine, a little on the restrained side, but in good proportion, sufficiently rich with good componentry. This should develop into a stylish, medium-weighted d'Yquem over the next 15 years or so.  17.5+/20 Aug 2010
