Ch. d’Yquem Sauternes 1989

Sweet Wine from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 18-Mar-2016
This has a bright, even, light golden colour. Tightly concentrated and finely proportioned on bouquet, this has penetrating aromas of dried apricots and tropical fruits, along with barley sugar and caramel, unfolding butterscotch and nuts. Beautifully integrated and showing savoury secondary and tertiary suggestions. On palate rich and luscious, the opulence balanced by wonderful acidity and tension, resulting in poise and finesse. Refined flavours of tropical fruits, orange marmalade, wild honey and savoury caramel. This is a beautifully detailed Yquem with complexing development nuances. 19.0-/20 Mar 2016 RRP $N/A Deep golden colour, quite even in appearance. This was knocked back on the nose by some TCA mustiness, stripping the aromatics of much of its nuance. Quite firm, fresh and brackish as a result. Nevertheless, this had richness, depth and presence, with its youthful waxy fruit and clover honey notes. However, through the palate, it was tight, dulled, somewhat drier than expected with grip showing.  18.0-/20 Aug 2010
